This discussion paper covers the way in which public services in developing countries are affected by electrification and to what extent these impacts are understood today. It is based on experiences from the ACP-EU Energy Facility that has supported energy access projects in Sub-Saharan Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific (ACP).
Besides the explicit contribution towards the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 7: Affordable and clean energy, granting electricity access to health and educational facilities can trigger an additional set of effects placing us a step closer in the accomplishment of several complementary goals: 3, 4, 5 and 10.
